The Game Plan (Game On #3) by Kristen Callihan

The Game Plan (Game On #3) by Kristen Callihan – 2.5 stars

This story follows Fionna, Ivy’s younger sister (second book in the series), and Ethan Dexter (Dex). While I still enjoy this series as an easy and enjoyable read, I find that with each book, the story line isn’t as strong.

While I did not hate the book, I just didn’t like it the same way I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the series. I didn’t believe in these characters the way I believed in the those in The Hook Up and The Friend Zone.

Fi and Dex fall together instantly. While some people might like that, I prefer more angst, more chase, more tension. There just wasn’t much in this book. There may have been minor setbacks, mostly because of Fi not wanting to be with a Football player, but I feel like that was pushed aside quickly. I have standards in dating too, and if I were to make an exception to the rule, it wouldn’t be after one night of sleeping alone and thinking of the guy. The story seemed to be built on instalove, and I just can’t understand it. Don’t get me wrong, the other stories were coming close to instalove for me, but they at least held off. The characters fought against it. There was a build up.

In The Game Plan, it just felt like, wam, bam, thank you man. It was too much, too fast, and I felt there was just so much that left me thinking why.

Dex could have been my next love – like Drew & Gray. But unfortunately, you don’t learn much about him at all… Other than his virginity which was hinted at in the other books. I wanted to love Dex. He was the large and oddly attractive man sitting in the corner keeping mostly to himself. The quiet type. He seemed like such a big sweetie, but my heart wasn’t in this story. And to be honest, it didn’t feel like the author’s heart was either.

The last half of the book was lagging. There wasn’t much draw. I kept skimming over paragraphs, uninterested in the overall story or where things were going. There was potential in the end with the big media blowout. When I reached that point, I was thinking finally! But it, again, fell flat. I was disappointed to say the least. For the amount of potential it had, the author didn’t live up to the fullest potential here.

So overall, I’m sorry to say, it just didn’t cut it for me. While Kristen Callihan is a fantastic writer as you can read in the first two books of this series, this one didn’t do it for me. I’m hoping the next book isn’t as much of a letdown as this.

While many have enjoyed this book, it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

The Friend Zone (Game On #2) by Kristen Callihan – 4.5 stars!

The Friend Zone is just that and perfectly put together!! The tension between them as they think about each other in ways that are more than just friends. The desire to always be friends, but craving a deeper connection with the one person you can’t ever dream of losing. So you fight to stay just friends for fear of what the next step my cost you.

This is the second book in the Game On series and follows Drew’s best friend, Gray. And I loooooove Gray!! I think maybe more than Drew. But I think I liked Drew’s story a little more. The first half was fantastic and I was melting into all that is Gray. The second half seemed a little slow for me. I was hoping for more angst when the first book had a good amount nearly all the way through, but this one fell short a bit in that regard. However, I still love Gray, and I still enjoyed this book.

Gray and Ivy. They just clicked right into the most perfect relationship. And literally, clicked. They started out texting since Ivy’s dad lent Gray her car. She asked for his phone number, threatened him to behave while using her car… And so it all began.

I want to give you everything. Every experience you ever dreamed of.
And things you never knew you wanted.

Ivy is a sports girl through and through, and Gray is immediately enthralled. He is the best friend she never had. Their chemistry is on point. Ivy is tall and grew up around football. She is willing to fight back, and play hard… And Gray loves it. She is feisty and honest, and is ready to tackle when it’s time to play rough! In the most adorable way of course…

As with the first book in this series, the man definitely is the strong point of the story! Gray had me all over swooning with his texting style, his cheesy jokes, and his boyish charm, I fell… Hard. I kept thinking, where has this guy been all my life!! But Ivy is everything he never knew he was looking for. A girl friend. A girlfriend.

This book was Captivating. Romantic. Toe-curling. Amazing.

How many girls have been looking for a guy like this? A guy who is your best friend. A guy who is willing to take care of you. A guy who makes you laugh. A guy who can cook – mmmm. A guy who is physically fit and flaunts it. A guy who can love you, oh, so thoroughly. Maybe even twice on Tuesdays. šŸ˜‰

Oh, my, Gray-Gray…

Go ahead. Read this book. Try to resist Gray’s charm.

The Hook Up (Game On #1) by Kristen Callihan – 5 brilliant stars!!

OHMYGOD. OHMYGOD. OHMYGOD!!!

How have I not read this book sooner?!

This book came to me highly recommended by my fellow book lover, Steph – thecrazyworldofabooklover, so I had to dig in… Immediately. If you don’t follow her, you probably should. Just throwing that out there. At first I was exceptionally nervous that it was just another smut book, but the author, Kristen Callihan, didn’t disappoint.

Anna and Drew. Drew and Anna. I was freaking out! Anna is a quiet girl with a fire lit on her head and her soul. She blazes without knowing it, seeing herself as too curvy and quit possibly, fat. I felt for her. The pressures of the world and other girls who are a size two with perfect pristine bodies like that on magazines is a harsh standard to live up to. But Drew didn’t see her this way. AndĀ he is the sweetest guy on the face of the earth! You wouldn’t think so at first, but when you read his POV, you literally melt for this wonderful, sexy, romantic, beast of a man. *wipes away drool*

Life, she insisted, is how you live it and who you live it with,
not what you do to make a living.

These two start off on the wrong foot, but the attraction, the pull, is undeniable. While most might not think they go together, their differences bring them together into a perfect mold. He wants her and isn’t afraid to admit it. Chasing after the redhead who has captured his eyes and heart. But all she seesĀ is a jock trying to mess with her head and, if she lets him to close, her heart.

Now, I hate the whole “insta-love” thing. It’s just not for me. I was a little torn when I started that it seems to be heading in that direction. Until I got to Drew’s POV. Then I was a smitten kitten. And how could anyone NOT be?!

She’s endless cream sprinkled with sugar, laid out on her bed like an offering of everything I’ve ever wanted.

DREW made this story what it was. He was the quarterback at college that everyone loved and admired. But he is not the stereotype. He is so much more. His words like a hot, liquid heat, and I melted like butter.

Anna irritated the ever living crap out of me, constantly pushing him away, wanting nothing more than sex with him. I’ll never understand that line of thinking, but to each his own, I suppose. But gradually you get a little further into Anna’s thinking and her torn emotions over what to do, to fall and possibly be crushed, or to run and precent it all in the first place. I get it. I know the need to run from something that might consume you. That emotion was very relatable to me. Anna will grow on you. I promise.

This story was amazing. I literally read it all day yesterday, stayed up late, passed out and dreamt about it, then woke up early to finish. While it’s not my typical read, I can’t deny the capability this author has at weaving fantastic characters and a story to fall in love with.
