Damaged Like Us (Like Us #1) by Krista Ritchie

So. I’m going to start this out by saying, I’m not into MM Romance. I feel awkward reading/thinking about it. It’s just not my cup of tea. However, when KB Ritchie say they have a new book, you know it’s a MUST read. So that’s what I did. For them.

Maximoff stares right at me with resilience and finality that says, I want you.
Only you.

If you’ve read The Addicted series, you’ve already had the opportunity to meet him and get to know him a little bit, but in DLU, you will submerge in everything about him. I love all that is Maximoff. His love for family, his loyalty, his feelings of responsibility, and even how his mind overthinks everything (I’m totally the same in that category).

Then we get to meet the new bodyguard, Farrow. Now, if you’re ever looking to read about a guy who is the epitomy of sexy badass, look no further. HOT. DAMN. Tattoos, piercings, all black clothes, with a James Franco grin that can melt anyone…

If I have to wrangle the sun out of the fucking sky with my bare hands, then I’ll withstand the burn. I’d give it all to him if I could.

I never expected to love these two together as much as I did. And the banter… THE BANTER. I don’t want to say more because if I do, I’ll go into a crazy rampage and spoil things, so… *zips lips*

Truthfully, I enjoyed so much of this book! All the credit for that goes to the lovely ladies who can write anything and not put me off. Again, MM Romance is by far not my favorite thing in the world to read, but it was still a great book with soooo much emotion that I doubt KBR can do anything less than bring the feels. And… THAT JAMES FRANCO SMILE.

giphy

I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to be a piece of food so badly as when I watch this gif.

These characters had me laughing and smiling, but I had one dilemma. Every time one of the core six came into DLU from the original series, I lost my mind with excitement. I miss them. I want them. I love them. All six are embedded into my core. What Krista & Becca Ritchie are doing to bring more of this world into our lives is so amazing, but also, I imagine, incredibly difficult. Not only do they have to do these characters justice, but also make the reader fall in love with this new cast equally, if not more, than the original. And with The Addicted series being my top-ever-romance-books-read, it’s going to be an incredible feat to pass. But if anyone can do it, it’s the authors who brought us the core six.

Now, this book, did not make me fall in love with these characters more or equally… yet. I wish they did, but… maybe in the next book? I have faith in KBR to make me fall deep for these characters the way they do in all their writings.

Note to the authors: I hope if you see this, you don’t overthink anything. Absolutely no pressure here from me. What you’re already doing is incredible, and I applaud you for having the courage to branch into the family and try to bring all those feels back with a new cast of characters. It will be my fault if I can’t manage to let go of the original gang. #addictedforlife

But taking the Addicted cast out of the running, this book was GREAT. I look forward to the next one in the series. I have so much I want to know – need to know – and the fact that I have to wait months is going to kill me.

unnamedDon’t date your bodyguard.
It was the one rule he had to break.

Maximoff Hale is a force of nature. A ship unwilling to be steered. Headstrong, resilient, and wholly responsible — the twenty-two-year-old alpha billionaire can handle his unconventional life. By noon, lunch can turn into a mob of screaming fans. By two, his face is all over the internet.

Born into one of the most famous families in the country, his celebrity status began at birth.

He is certified American royalty.

When he’s assigned a new 24/7 bodyguard, he comes face-to-face with the worst case scenario: being attached to the tattooed, MMA-trained, Yale graduate who’s known for “going rogue” in the security team — and who fills 1/3 of Maximoff’s sexual fantasies.

Twenty-seven-year-old Farrow Keene has one job: protect Maximoff Hale. Flirting, dating, and hot sex falls far, far out of the boundary of his bodyguard duties and into “termination” territory. But when feelings surface, protecting the sexy-as-sin, stubborn celebrity becomes increasingly complicated.

Together, boundaries blur, and being exposed could mean catastrophic consequences for both.

The Like Us series is a true series, one continuous timeline, that follows a family of wealthy celebrities and the people that protect them. Damaged Like Us can be read and enjoyed without reading any of Krista & Becca’s other novels.

Excerpt

Maximoff Hale POV

“Number twelve.” I nod to the list.

He eyes me for a long moment before focusing on the paper. “It says that you’re not used to letting other people behind the wheel.” It actually says I always drive.

I glance at him once, then back to the road. “I didn’t realize that you can’t read.” I switch lanes.

I can almost feel his smile stretch. “Always a precious smartass.” I hear him flip a page. “You have a typo on number thirty-two.”

He called me precious. What the fuck does that even mean? Precious. I have to let it go, but the word scrolls across my gaze like a tickertape banner. “What typo?”

“You forgot a comma.”

I let out an irritated groan. “This isn’t a term paper. Don’t critique my grammar.”

Farrow kicks up one of his shoes on my seat. Balancing his forearm on his knee. Then he bites the staple off and spits it out. I tense and try to watch him and the road simultaneously.

He has a very particular way he moves his hands. They shift with meticulousness and care. A sort of accuracy that belongs to surgeons and someone equipped to disassemble and reassemble a gun blindfolded.

I’ve imagined those hands on me too many times to count. Don’t fucking restart now. I’m trying not to, but having him this close, the NC-17 fantasies vie to breach the surface. Heat blankets my skin and tries to grip my cock.

Thumbing through the papers, Farrow tells me, “You’re about to miss our exit.”

“Shit.”

“Don’t have a best friend that’s a girl” — this was the advice from my older cousin. I didn’t take it. Because he followed with, “friends don’t f*ck friends. And you’ll want to f*ck her.”

It was terrible advice.

My cousin should’ve told me that being best friends with Baylee Wright — since she was twelve — would be the best and worst decision of my life.

He should have told me to protect her from what was coming.

He should have told me that when a darkness crawled towards us, there’d be no safety net.

Now I’ve signed back on to the same Vegas acrobatic show as Baylee, working together for the first time in years. And she tells me that she’s having trouble in a certain “area” of her life — because of our past.

“You can help me fix it,” she says.

And then she hands me a list.

Infini by Krista & Becca Ritchie

25510924“I won’t talk to her. I won’t look at her.” And maybe, one day, I’ll forget what our love felt like. And I’ll finally stop holding on.

I received an ARC from Krista & Becca Ritchie, the authors of the Addicted & Calloway Sisters series (my forever favorites) + Amour Amour, the prequel to Infini!

First off, let me start by saying that this is probably going to be one of my favorite reads of – not only 2017 – but forever. No joke.

I. LOVE. LUKA. KOTOVA.

She clutches my bicep around her collarbones like she doesn’t want me to let go anytime soon. I’m not. I’m holding on forever.

For anyone who knows Krista & Becca Ritchie’s writing, you will probably already be aware of the fact that this will have your emotions all over the board. Be prepared to fall, and fall hard, for all of these characters. A handful of times, I had to close my kindle and cry, just to soak in the emotions emanating from this story. If anyone knows how to sweep the reader into a world of characters that none will soon forget, it is KB Ritchie.

Awe-inspiring. Heart-warming. Off-the-charts.

The characters are timeless. The love is limitless. The passion is unforgettable.

“All I know is what I feel. And I’m in love with you, Bay. Right now. Not just five years ago – but here, today. Yesterday. Tomorrow. It’s forever kind of love, and I’m not letting go. I can’t let go.”

While time changes us with age, Luka and Baylee come to see that hearts often stay the same. I don’t think I’ve ever read a romance quite as tender and adorable as these two. Their childhood experiences, their struggles and heartbreaks, bleed through into present. Into who they have become. The question is if they can somehow manage to move forward together.

Our chests rise at the same time, and in a crowd full of people, with all eyes on me, I mouth, I love you.

Baylee and Luka aren’t burning up the pages, they are warming our hearts. And it’s simply precious.

giphy

Also, I’d just like to add that Luka is probably the kindest, sweetest, most empathetic character I’ve ever read. He puts his loved ones first. Always. Circus is family, and it’s not just a motto, it’s a way of life for him.

The family dynamic alone will have you wrapped up in this story. The love and support between these amazing characters is uplifting and inspiring. Nikolai. Thora. Dimitri. Timofei. Katya. Sergei. (Yes, even Sergei.) For the love of all things family. This group will dig into your heart and not let you go.

“I love you, brother. I need you whole.”

Welcome to the circus.

Luka Kotova is introduced in Amour Amour, and Infini takes place in the same acrobatic world. However, it’s not necessary to read Amour Amour prior to Infini
