Night of Cake & Puppets (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #2.5) by Laini Taylor

This is exactly what I needed. I’ve been in the biggest book funk since SOC. I’ve read books, yes, but not like I usually can. Not with speed and hunger. But this book was the perfect light read. A short love story combined with magic, oddities, and so much humor. I literally took pictures of so many pages and passages that had me LOL.

This story is so gosh darn precious. If you’ve read the series, or at least the first two books, pick this up. It’s totally worth it.

City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments #6)

The last book. The conclusion to all the greatness of this tale. The epic ending of Clary’s story. Words… Where are the words…

If there is a reason to read the series, the last book is the reason. It is everything. This conclusion will suck you into a new level of the world of Shadowhunters, and the characters will fill your heart.

Rocking back and forth, she clutched the sword like it was the only thing she had ever loved, and let the blood spill down instead of tears.

The action, the intensity, the struggle, and the unity. IT’S MAGICAL.

“Weapons, when they break and are mended, can be stronger at the mended places,” said Jace. “Perhaps hearts are the same.”

I can’t say a lot here because if I did I’d be spoiling a lot of the other books, and I just can’t do that to you! This book is worth all the others. And all the others are already great, so basically, just read this series. You won’t regret it!

City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments #5) by Cassandra Clare

“‘Flectere si nequeo superos, Acheronta movebo.’ ‘If I cannot move Heaven, I will raise Hell.’”

Welcome back to the Mortal Instruments series, City of Lost Souls, book #5 in the six book series. I have to say, I love this series so much. And this book… THIS BOOK.

If you think you loved these characters before, you will love them even more. With each book, we learn more about the strength each of these individuals possess. The difference of fighting styles, the power of sheer will, and the unyeilding strength of love.

I’m thinking next time I read a large series like this, I’ll do one review for the entire series because if I tell you ANYTHING of what was happening in this book, I’ll likely spoil the first few books for you. And I just can’t do that.

So how about a couple quote teasers!

She knew how strong he was, but she still felt a shock as he carried her to the bed and laid her down gently among the scattered pillows, sliding his body over hers, one smooth gesture that reminded her what all those Marks on his body were for. Strength. Grace. Lightness of touch.
“My heart is your heart,” he said. “My hands are your hands.”

Basically, if you haven’t read this book yet or this series, you may want to. 🙂

8755776The New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments continues—and so do the thrills and danger for Jace, Clary, and Simon.

What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.

City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments #4)

Or maybe it’s just that beautiful things are so easily broken by the world.

Another excellent read!

Writing reviews for these books are getting harder and harder because I don’t want to give anything away from the series, let alone individual books. And when a series runs this long or more, it’s difficult to gush about what you love or hate without spilling all the secrets. And this book was definitely a love. Oh, how I wish I could tell you all the things!!

With each book, the characters fall into their own more than the last. The attitudes, the snarky comments, and the friendships growing between them all. Not to mention Jace and Clary. But, well, you know…

You’re just worried they’ll hire a male instructor and he’ll be hotter than you.”
Jace’s eyebrows went up. “Hotter than me?”
“It could happen,” Clary said, “You know, theoretically.”
“Theoretically the planet could suddenly crack in half, leaving me on one side and you on the other, forever and tragically parted, but I’m not worried about that either. Some things,” Jace said, with his customary crooked smile, “are just too unlikely to dwell upon.

This book takes new twists and turns that will leave you anxious for more. Cassandra Clare knows how to build the tension, and in this book, it comes down to a cliffhanger moment that will leave you stunned.

City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) by Cassandra Clare

Wow. Not only did I forget how much I loved this series, but THIS BOOK. I vaguely remembered bits and pieces from reading it five years ago, but now it’s all slammed into me and I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.

Welcome to the Glass City – AKA Alicante! This book is a bit different from the first two so far. It starts off with a bang and it just keeps going. There isn’t really any down time. You are in and you are being pulled under by the current of this story. Needing more action. Wanting answers. Craving CLACE.

“There is no pretending,” Jace said with absolute clarity. “I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I’ll love you then.”

Out of all of the characters, this book broke my heart piece by piece for Jace. You can’t help but feel sorry for him, and also, a little peeved. I’m not spoiling the book but, WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT, JACE? AND THAT? AND THAT?

I still love you.

I would like to take a moment and say just how much I love the scenes between Jace and Clary. They are filled with struggle and torment masked as a hunger that runs deeper than their bones. The development of friendship between Simon and Jace and the bonds growing between all of the other characters is also an awesome bonus in this book!

Off to book 4! 🙂
